EMI CEO: The Music CD is dead.
The chairman of EMI Music spoke in front of an audience in London today and essentially said that the music CD is “dead”.
Alain Levy said: “The CD as it is right now is dead,” and added that 60% of buyer transfer the material to computers then digital media players.
He used this shock statement to prefece the statement that his company will have all of its new CDs produced with extra content by late 2007.
In Britain about 70% of music purchases are CDs while 11% of sales are downloads.
