When you watch the previews of the movie “Dark Water” you would think that this movie was made in the vein of “The Ring” or “The Grudge”. Although I’ve never watched “The Ring” I hear great things about it.
I have watched the original Japanese version of “The Grudge” and was totally satisfied with that movie. I’ve noticed that those type of movies (Japanese Horror) take a lot of time building up to the end of the film, which is usually well worth the wait. “Dark Water” tries to be an American version of Japanese Horror movie but instead it turns out to be just “white bread”. Jennifer Connelly, who plays a recently separated mother, does a OK job with the script. You can tell at points she managed to make the mark. It’s unfortuante that the script is terrible. John C. Reilly does this same with his supporting role as a manager of the apartment Connelly moves in as she gets her life started again. This movie also has, what I call “false endings” times when you think the movie ends, but doesn’t. These usually happen in bad movies that you REALLY want to end. And considering this movie could have been told in about 1 hour instead of 1 hour 44 mins, this movie had 2 false endings. Do yourself a favor and try watching movies like “Ju-On: The Grudge” (original) or “Audition”.
