Bertucci’s Survey

I recently went to my local Bertucci’s in Hazlet and afterwards I was asked to take a survey, this is what I wrote:

Although I’m sure you hear this line all the time, I am not one to complain about a restaurant when I go out to eat. Since I have 3 kids under the age of 8 I don’t go out to any outrageously priced place. Typically we’ll go to IHOP, Freindly’s or something of the like. Bertucci’s was a bit of a stretch for us.

The server and hostess we very nice and were about the only nice thing about the meal.

When we first got seated I noticed the floors were dirty (food under the table, used napkins under the table, etc). I also noticed the bench behind us was ripped and fixed with a piece of some like-colored adhesive tape.

I was looking at the beer menu. I typically like to try a beer I never had before when I go out. Megan, the server, told me that she was sorry, but the taps weren’t working. I then ordered a Diet Coke.

I went into the bathroom to was my hands. When I proceeded to dry them I noticed that the waste basket was pretty full, considering I walked in there at about 4:45p (we were the second table to be seated for dinner service).

My food (Mozz & Tomatoe salad with grilled chicken) as a bit over “dressed”, but that was my fault for not ordering the dressing on the side. I can deal with that. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal (kids pizzas, rigatoni & butter, and a “create your own calzone”)

Then came dessert. I ordered an espresso while my wife had regular coffee and a slice of marzipan cheesecake and the kids had their ice cream. The cheesecake was frozen so much that we took it to go. My espresso was served without a lemon (which I didn’t request, but maybe I should have) and without a saucer AND was half full. The espresso tasted like is was instant, not something I would expect for $3. It was weak and room temperature.

Like I mentioned earlier I don’t complain much, but when I do it’s for good reason. There were so many things wrong with my visit (and none of that had to do with the staff in front of house) that I think I’ll stick to my generic places to take my family.
