It looks as if Microsoft filed a patent in June for “Web feeds”, we commonly refer to as RSS (wikipedia). It’s interesting to note that RSS was developed about 7 years ago by Netscape. So far Al Gore has not made any claims about RSS.
An executive for the software maker said they may have made the filings public due to announcement made over the summer that Vista would have RSS built into the OS. If this patent is granted Microsoft would have legal control over anyone using RSS (including this site).
With any hope the Patent Office will reject the claim and RSS will be free for everyone to use. The tubes of the internet will be safe.
